The caisson belt
The caisson belt was completed on July 18th with the insertion of the 17th caisson.
The first photo recalls the keys of a piano with these black shutters arranged at regular intervals.
They shut the entrance to the Jarlan chambers. It is by entering these that the waves will lose a very large part of their energy (see the construction news section, the article in three parts, devoted to hydraulic engineers, on August 31st).
The shutters will be removed when the belt is put into operation, after the civil work is completed.
We can also see that the caissons are not totally interdependent. This is to ensure a better reaction of the entire belt in the event of an earthquake.
